Drink Your Apple A Day

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

We are all familiar with that saying, aren’t we? Just last week, a friend kept on saying about how happy she was with her apple juice. She said it was in apple-shaped bottles too. Well I imagined and all I could think of was the apple juice in the game Ragnarok Online which was the pet food for a Poring. Of course I am partially correct.

When our group had our overnight database building last Thursday in her house, she gave us a bottle each of her favorite apple juice. It was a new taste — unlike the apple flavor of juice packs. It is really apple juice, the real apple.

Because I liked it too, I bought some yesterday. I have apple juices at home now!

Martinelli's Gold Medal Apple Juice

So what are the benefits of apple juice?

Numerous research studies are providing strong scientific evidence that apples do indeed promote good health throughout our lifetime. Research has also shown that the nutrients in whole apples that provide many important health benefits are “passed along” when the fruit is processed into apple juice.

Apple juice, like the apple fruit, has phytonutrients that have powerful antioxidant effects on our body. It can reduce cancer risks, brain cell damage, heart disease risk, and asthma risk. Great. Apple juice can be a good supplement to your diet. But fruits will always be number one.

This Martinelli’s Gold Medal apple juice that I bought is also affordable aside from being made from real apples in the USA. I bought 4 bottles for Php 65.25. But if you buy it individually it’ll cost you around Php 54.00. Erratum: Regular price is Php 54.00 per bottle.

So don’t forget, drink your apple a day! Yikes!

Don’t Close Your Eyes Yet

I can’t believe it. I only slept for just two hours yesterday! Two cold hours. And not at home. Emily and I were at Maellen’s house to continue building our database project. We should have done more if not because of Silberschatz! Damn. Anyways, I was fighting off Mr. Sandman last night with all my might. Of course, sometimes I thought I failed but all of a sudden I just woke up. Usually, 11PM is the moment wherein Mr. Sandman K.O.’s me to slumber. Sometimes if I fight back, he’d put pepper in my eyes. But yesterday was a different thing. I put up a good fight. The battle between Mr. Sandman and I reached 4 in the morning. And then he won. Nevertheless, it was a long fight.

I had to wake up 2 hours later so I could go home and prepare myself for the non-productive interview which I regret going to. I went to school after, on high. I bought for the first time Nescafe Freez Latte to kill the drowsiness. Nothing happened. I was attentive in class. But I looked very tired, I know. I had to miss my 4PM class because I can’t take it anymore.

Anyways, instead of going home, I got myself treated to a strawberry parfait in Ice Castle. Thanks Cath, Jenny and Jean. They enticed me to eat instead of going home right away.

When I reached home, I never slept. Until now.

I know a lot of college students are also experiencing the same dilemmas. Less sleep and more work. School work. March can really be demanding. This is where the problems start surprising you, attacking you stealthily. Our finals week is next week. I am gonna be in my worst state then. Boo hoo.

Anyways, for those who are getting less sleep like me because of school stuff, don’t forget to catch up later on your sleeping hours. Rest is important because no rest means no life. Fail. Just eat well and have some vitamins or fruits. And water, yeah. In a matter of days, everything would be over. I hope.

Good luck to all the students! May your grades be friendly to you.

Spit And Butts

Two questions I ask everyday when I go to school:

Why do some people love to spit anywhere?

Is it habit? Is it influence? Or is it fad? I don’t know. I have recently been observing everything when I commute to school. I even planned to count the number of people spitting on streets or sidewalks in one day. But I think I cannot.

One thing I notice is that jeepney drivers are the ones who love to spit on the road. Is it an ecstatic feeling to spit out in public? Wouldn’t it be embarrassing?

It is dirty. And those with diseases can easily spread the germs anywhere. It also adds to how dirty a place is. Would you want to bring spit on your doorstep?

Is there no law about this one? Is this freely allowed? I’ve seen several traffic enforcers do this. I’ve even seen professionals doing it too when they’re in the sidewalk.

I guess we’ll all have to live with that.

Or not.

Why are some drivers very undisciplined?

I’m not just talking about traffic rules and ethics but also when it comes to cleanliness. Drivers love to smoke a lot. The funny thing is that they have “No Smoking” signs inside. Another nasty thing is that they throw their cigarette butts in the middle of the street. Is the public road their trash bin?

I am concerned of the cleanliness of our country. I’m not saying I don’t litter. Sometimes I do, but very rarely. Drivers on the other hand, I see them litter everyday of my life. And it is not a good view.

One thing, I also see cigarette butts in our school canteen. Even students?

Philippines, my Philippines

We have so many laws but how many are actually implemented? Local citizens get very irresponsible because they are left to do what they want, good or not. These are quite petty things but they could accumulate and turn into something we don’t want.

Philippines, my Philippines. Oh well.
