Cookout, Larsian, IT Park: A Weekend of Blasts!

I had a really tiring but fun weekend last week. Â I just notice how I fill my weekends with events and get-togethers. And usually with bloggers.

Last August 7, 2009, UP Cebu celebrated the annual Cookout. That was my first time to invite my Cebu Bloggers Society friends to come over and spend the whole night-til-morning partying event with me. Partying’s an overstatement though. Anyways, Cookout 2009 wasn’t the best Cookout that I’ve been to. If I were to spend that night alone or I don’t know who else with, it should have been ‘bad trip’ mode. But my friends were there to join me in laughing and wow-ing the performances on stage. Well, more of the laugh and side insults  .

Sumilon Bluewater, Not Just Your Ordinary Getaway

There lies an island on the south of Cebu that holds such a simple yet stunning beauty that would surely mesmerize the eye that sees it. Sitting on tranquil and life-filled waters, the flora-abundant Sumilon island is one of Cebu’s well-kept treasures and has remained such through time. On the first day of August 2009, 35 bloggers from Cebu were invited to have the time of their lives at the scenic Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort.

What Makes Sumilon Island Extraordinary?

Sumilon Island

A wide stretch of white sand, a continuously shifting wind-strewn sandbar, a mangrove lagoon, a number of well-preserved dive spots, a diverse community of sea life, an abundance of trees, a crystal clear surrounding blue water and the natural calmness of nature, that’s what you get in the island of Sumilon.

Located 125 kilometers from Cebu City, Sumilon Island is worth the long trip down the winding and historical road of Cebu South. A stunning 24 hectares compose the island and it has been recognized as the very first fish sanctuary in the country. Such protection of Sumilon’s aquatic wildlife made it possible for divers to spot a variety of marine species including black tip sharks.

In Search For That Special Problem

So here comes (hopefully) my last year in college. They say it is the most memorable. But a lot say it is the most excruciating part of college and that if you endure and get past it, the rewards would be more than you could ask for. Of course, I meant a diploma. ;-)

The last year also meant for me to search for that special problem that would push me to having my toga and all the accessories of graduation. Why the hell would I search for a special problem? Can’t I take an ordinary and cliche problem instead? Like love, money and…

Back to topic. Special Problem is what we call our research or thesis. Tradition says that this is the focal point of failure in students. Let me kill that tradition, okay?

Now I am in dire need of collecting ideas or better yet finalize a research topic for my next semester. I’ve been incubating on a pool of ideas but it’s not working. The ideas just don’t materialize into full-blown topics. Continue reading
