Drag Me To Hell is an American horror film directed by Sam Raimi (Spiderman). Drag Me To Hell stars Alison Lohman and Justin Long. People speculated that Drag Me To Hell will be the Horror Film of 2009. Uhm, maybe?
Rose missed me
so she asked if we could go out sometime before classes would start. It should have been this Friday but I invited her (out from a bored mind) that we watch something on cinema right on this very day. I asked some guys from Plurk to recommend a good movie to watch. In a clean sweep, they said Drag Me To Hell. Oh well, I’m not a big fan of horror flicks but when I saw the trailer, I thought, this might be good and cool
. So off to SM and when there, we got confused of what really to watch. Since both of us are indecisive, we just picked the first choice. The stupid us also thought Justin Long is Jack of Jack and Bobby who is actually Matt Long. Then came a surprise.

The cinema was freakin’ empty! Well not empty as in nada but I think there are only less than 30 people who watched the film. What a catch. High School Musical 3 (last year) gave out an almost full cinema. Drag Me To Hell, bare. Oh well, I’m optimistic so I was laughing all the time about how empty the cinema was. We waited for a few minutes before the film started rolling. Voila, the film started.
Drag Me To Hell started with the past, about how a young kiddo was cursed by the gypsies and was then “dragged to hell” by an evil spirit named Lamia. Fast forward, a loan officer named Christine just denied a very old (and
) woman an extension for her house loan. That old woman is actually a gypsy
and because Christine shamed her, the woman cursed her. The Lamia is back. The film continued on with the Lamia disturbing Christine, the old woman haunting her and many more “scary” parts. A mystic tried to help her and brought her to Shaun San Dena (the sorceress who witnessed the kiddo who was dragged to hell). The spells backfired and Shaun San Dena died. The last hope was to return the cursed object (the button) to the old woman in her grave. Stupidly, she jammed the wrong thing to the dead body and upon returning to her seemingly normal life, she sees the cursed button again brought by Clay, her boyfriend. The ending? She was dragged to hell.
I thought she’d be hit over by the train like a Final Destination scene. But she was dragged to hell. The end. And we asked, “Okay, that was it?”. Being optimistic, I’d say the film is of good quality. The story is fine though there are some parts that are really out of place and trivial. What disturbs me is that I’m supposed to get scared or freaked out, but I never felt that way while watching the film. Instead, I was laughing most of the time. A horror film that kept me laughing, hurray! Some parts are just really weird and funny. Like the blood gushing out from her nose like a water from hose. Oh c’mon! The only part that I liked best (and I got excited too) is the fight scene between Christine and the old woman in the basement. It was totally awesome! But the rest of the scenes were ordinary and funny.
We went out of the cinema laughing and asking ourselves why we watched that. Well, we’ll never know what the movie is like unless we watch it so it was fine. At least I had fun. Rose also had “surprised” moments and I was laughing hard so many times because she got surprised and shocked by some scenes. For me, the events were trivial.
So is Drag Me To Hell horror or not? Of course it is a horror film! But it is not like the kind of horror film that will prevent you from turning out the lights at night. It is the kind of horror film that will make you laugh. Overall, I’d give it 7 out of 10. The movie is good, it just lacked the sense of horror-ness.
So I’d still recommend watching the film to those who haven’t seen it yet. We have different tastes. We just don’t know you might be screaming your lungs out while watching it.

I am not a big fan of horror films, so I probably won’t go see this one. However, I heard a review of it the other day, including an interview with the director. From the interview, it sounded pretty interesting.
Thanks for adding your take on the film.

Yeah the movie is fine actually. And quite good most especially that I am not into horror movies that much. They should just have weeded the funny/weird parts.

I find the movie cool too actually. I was just weirded out by the funny parts. I don’t watch horror movies frequently. Maybe that’s why I was surprised of the funny moments.
hahah! i got the movie file of this, but have not time to watch due to my workmates saying the movie is not as good as Kill Theory…hahah
