This November 12 and 13, 2009, the DigitalFilipino E-Commerce Summit will be held in Hotel Intercontinental, Makati City. One of the sponsors of the said summit will be Globe GCASH. Particularly, Ms. Rizza Maniego-Eala, President of G-Xchange, Inc. will speak regarding the “Challenges and Opportunities in Mobile Money Transfer: Implementation of GCASH” at the said event.

Talking about implementation of GCASH, let’s talk about its details first.

GCASH is tied to the phrase mobile money transfer. And mobile money transfer can cover a lot of areas like banking, finance, accounting, personal use, etcetera. GCASH allows Globe and Touch Mobile subscribers to pay or transact for the following using their mobile phones:

- domestic and international remittances
- utility bills
- interest and amortization of loans
- insurance premiums
- donations to various institutions and organizations
- sales commissions and payroll disbursements
school tuition fees
- micro tax payments and business registration
- electronic loads and pins
- online purchases via GCASH Click
- airline tickets

Bank of the Philippines (BPI) account holders can also tie up their banking with Globe GCASH. With BPI’s Mobile Banking, one can do bank transactions on the mobile phone securely. GCASH is also used as a wholesale payment facility particularly for rural banks wherein various money transfer services are offered such as: text-a-deposit, text-a-sweldo, text-a-withdrawal, text-a-payment, text-a-remittance.

Another feature of GCASH is GCASH REMIT. A cash pick-up remittance service, it enables OFW’s to easily send money from abroad. Their beneficiaries can instantly claim their remittances in over 2,500 GCASH REMIT pay out centers in the Philippines which includes pawnshops, rural bank and money changers. GCASH has also GCASH Click, a buy and sell payment facility.

With GCASH, you can also easily purchase load whenever you need it. And probably subscribe to Globe’s newest load service, Immortal Load – no expiry!

On a personal note, I think with GCASH fully implemented, then I guess it would make a lot of things easier. I think GCASH is most useful for business transactions and for personal financial uses. I hope someday GCASH would include more banks (though I have a BPI account) and would expand its scope to include easy mall shopping, dining, and international spending.
