Lopez made its first donation to Asian Institute of Management in 1968. According to the AIM website, “Eugenio Lopez Foundation, Inc. donates PhP 5 million for the construction of the main AIM building” in 1968. At the present, Oscar Lopez reiterates the ideals of his father Eugenio H. Lopez Sr. in being deeply committed to education. Eugenio Lopez Sr. during his time saw the idea of setting up an academic institution which is at par with the standards of Harvard University. Materializing that idea of his “was a good way of providing his most lasting legacy to the Philippines and Asia.”
Written in the Eugenio Lopez Foundation’s dedication document in 1969 is:
Through its support to AIM, the Foundation extends its vision to the future by making possible educational opportunities from which it is hoped will come tomorrow’s professional managers dedicated to building a more productive society.
The PhP 25 million donation today will be used to renovate the Makati campus. It includes renovation of the ground floor that houses the main lobby, four caserooms, and the offices of admissions and alumni relations. The deed of donation was formally accepted by AIM chairman Jose Cuisia and president Edilberto de Jesus.
This generous act of the Lopez Group Foundation which started way way before must be set as an example to other private sectors and institutions. We know that the educational system of the Philippines needs some financial support from the private class. Putting priority to education paves way to a long-term achievement that will help improve the country’s state. If more private entities provide education to colleges, universities and high schools, then the country would be producing more intellectuals and professionals. Just that means a lot to the improvement of every Filipino’s life.
