My Cebu Island Hopping Experience (Part 1)
Living in Cebu (Philippines) provides a big advantage for beach lovers like me. I have always wanted to try island hopping (never tried it before) and I know I am already at the right place. Last July 5, 2009, I, together with everyone from iCatchIT Inc. (this is where I am having my OJT until now) went island hopping in the islands of Hilutungan, Nalusuan (Cebu) and Pandanon (Bohol). Let me share my first time island hopping experience.
The first time I read about the company outing, I got excited. Island hopping, why not?!
I decided I should go since I’m also not seeing much of everyone from the office already because of school.
Then July 4 came. I even have to miss a Cebu Bloggers Society event/gathering so I could prepare myself for the island hopping. :halo: Torrential rain came and that made me worry but thank God the rain never came during the island hopping trip.
Assembly
Almost all of us met at Andok’s in Highway, Mandaue City. A jeep was hired to bring us to Scuba World in Mactan Island. This is where the island hopping starts.
When all of us were ready to go, we boarded a large nontraditional banca (wooden boat) which has features of Wi-Fi connectivity
and an iPod dock  .
Hilutungan Island
Our first destination is Hilutungan Island. It took us around a quarter of an hour to reach the island from where we took off. The time was spent for cam-whoring, talks, fun, music and food. The sky was so clear that time, a sign of a very good weather for the whole outing. And it also meant my skin getting darker. :vangry: With me afraid of sunburn (who would want to walk in school with their skin peeling off anyways
), I over-applied sunblock on my skin and face. More on my face. Crazy
.
We reached Hilutungan Island after a while. A small island lays before us but I didn’t know we are not to get down and stroll by the island. Our real destination is Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary. Yep, we are floating above a marine sanctuary. Fishes of various sizes and colors were actually swimming before our eyes. Armed with bread, we fed them and a lot of them surfaced from the over 25 feet sea. The exciting part is we are actually allowed to swim with the fishes!
So we did.
The fishes cannot be clearly seen in the video though
I love swimming in deep water. Too bad I don’t have goggles but I actually borrowed one time from another person and looked below and saw the fishes swimming by. Friendly fishes.
I swam far, everyone were enjoying the water and the scorching sun. I think I over-swam and surprised my body. I rose up from the waters earlier than the rest — I was dizzy. Body shock, perhaps? The rest went up and we were then bound to the next destination, Nalusuan Island. I still felt dizzy but after some time (and a shot of tequila), I felt better and alive again, ready for another swim at the next island.
