29 Philippine Fish Species Now Endangered

Advocacy,Nature,People 27 April 2010 2 Comments

This morning, while commuting my way to work, I passed by the infamous Butuanon Bridge of Mandaue City. I’m not sure but I think they call the river below it Butuanon River too. I know that the river is connected to Cebu’s prized watersheds. Unfortunately, the river is exactly like what Manny Villar is portraying in his jingles — polluted, dark and lifeless. I thought, would it help if at least one company pledges to save the river and the lives in it? Glenn Soco may have started his campaign, but the sure way to save the river and every other devastated river in the country is to start with ourselves, in the context of the community.

Recently, a red alert status has been raised to 29 Philippine-found fish species including the famous dilis. Oh yes, dilis is in the red list! A book entitled “Red List: Status of Marine Endemic Teleosts (Bony Fishes) of the Philippines” has just been released to let the Filipinos know what we are going to lose if we don’t take action. The 29 bony fish species unique to our country’s waters, along with the threats to their survival, are listed in such book. Some of us may not mind how disturbing this topic might be, but these 29 fish species can be considered significant in terms of national pride. We are not required to identify these species by their scientific names. We, as ordinary people, just need to know what causes their near extinction and how we can save them.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” Now Available!

Movies 10 April 2010 2 Comments

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Alvin and the Chipmunks. All opinions are 100% mine.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The SqueakquelAlvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel came out in 2009. I have seen the first movie but not this one though (last year was a bit rough and busy for me). We all know that Alvin and the Chipmunks is about the world famous singing pre-teen chipmunk trio. In the squeakquel, the trio returned to contend with the pressures of school, celebrity, and their rival female music group, The Chipettes. Alvin, played by Justin Long, is partnered with the other two, Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (Jess McCartney). The Chipettes is composed of Eleanor (Amy Poehler), Jeanette (Anna Faris) and Brittany (Christina Applegate).

If you haven’t seen the movie, then good news! Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel is now available in DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download. The Double DVD Pack includes “The Squeak Along” Bonus Disc, with more music, mayhem and all-new sing-alongs. Parents might want to get it. Aside from being a family-friendly movie, it is also fun and entertaining.

I might watch the movie someday. It’s just a download away anyways. But for those who want to add the movie to their home collection, then maybe you’d want to buy it now! There’s More Munk Mayhem in store for you too (click on the link). Enjoy the movie!

Globe’s “My Rewards. My Globe” Rewards Program Finally Launched

Technology 4 April 2010 16 Comments

At last, the short wait is over. Waiting for the event called Globe’s 4438 has finally its rewards! I know today’s gonna be a great day. Of course, this is the day when Globe Telecom will surprise its subscribers with something really good. I waited for the message to arrive in my Globe phone. It came around after lunch while I was watching a movie. The text message came from 4438 (ah, that’s why) and said:

APRIL 4 marks how GLOBE values YOU through the years. Ngayon may balik na POINTS ang load mo at MORE FREEBIES para sa yo. Text REWARDS to 4438 for free.

Curious me, curious me. I’ve heard from friends and other bloggers that this 4438 thing is a rewards system from Globe. I guess they’re right. Rewards and freebies. So I sent in the magic keyword, REWARDS, to 4438 and got this message on the photo:

Globe's My Rewards. My Globe

Ah so what we’ve all been waiting for is a rewards program from Globe called My Rewards. My Globe. This sounds exciting especially now that the perks of being a Globe user has finally level upped. April 4 is the historic day for all those happy Globe subscribers out there. My Rewards. My Globe not only serves as a rewards program but also a loyalty program for the avid Globe consumers. It has its Touch Mobile counterpart too called TM Astig Rewards. [Continue reading...]

Sending Out My Hardbound Babies

Studies 2 April 2010 7 Comments

Wooh, my thesis is finally over. After a semester of hard work, sweat and sleepless nights, I finally finished this major subject. My thesis is entitled Web-based Interactive Learning Object of the Human Immune Response to Pathogenic Activity. You can view it in the Center of Interactive Learning Objects in Biology or CILOB which is also done by me. Great, huh?

The final requirement for our thesis is to give out the hardbound copies of the documentation with CDs. I had my thesis docs bound in Dayon Enterprises across USC-TC. I just paid off Php150 for rush binding. The next day, I got my 5 hardbound copies. I can’t explain how happy I am when I received my hardbound babies. I’ve worked really really hard for them and now they’re materialized! [Continue reading...]

My Name Is Extraordinary Naruto

TV 2 April 2010 2 Comments

Was I a “Naruto” person? Am I a fanatic like the people I know who religiously watch the anime and wait for the manga to come out? Do I drool for Naruto merchandise? I guess I’m not that person.

I have watched several episodes of Naruto in the local channel — dubbed Tagalog. And I like it. But my interest wanes when I know that I have missed so much already. And I also don’t read manga. I have never read one. I think my interests are beyond that zone. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like Naruto. I find the anime cool. If only I have the time to watch from the first episode to the latest. I have been continuously begging my classmate (Justine) to bring her Naruto CDs so I could watch but she never heeded the request, so I am Naruto-illiterate now. [Continue reading...]
