Dell Inspiron N4110 Review

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron N4110 in replacement of my also recently destroyed HP Compaq CQ40 (I spilled milk choco on it  ). What made me decide to buy this Dell Inspiron is that aside from Dell being a renowned brand when it comes to computers, the specs are also quite suitable for my personal needs.

The Dell Inspiron N4110 carries with it a 2nd-generation Intel i3 processor, good enough to do basic stuff on your computer. The 2GB memory is also enough for tasks like browsing the web, music and videos, and simple programming. The 14-inch display is good enough but not totally impressive. The cover is a glossy, brushed finish and unfortunately, it can easily get scratched so be careful with what you use to wipe it.

The computer base is a nice brushed finish but like the cover, it easily smudges — and the smudges don’t get wiped off easily. The keyboard is distinguished from the base by a silver metal enclosure — practically to put some design on the too plain computer base. The keyboard keys are chiclet-style, not like what I was used to with my Compaq (keys close together). They are evenly-spaced and if you are not used to having such keys, you’ll need to adjust.

My pick for the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2011

Last year, I was very much eager to nominate my favorite blogs in the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs writing project. I wrote my post in August 28 with the title Extraordinary Nominees for the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2010. But this year is different. Aside from being a total deadliner (deadline is today), I was also less exposed to the new blogs that have just sprouted recently. That makes it difficult for me to choose my picks. After a few considerations, here are the vote-worthy blogs I have finally chosen. And to add a bit of variety, I grouped them by category.

Food

Being a food blogger is difficult and I never even dared took that path. Not all food blogs are good though. Only a very few will really catch your taste buds. And here are some of them.

1. CERTIFIED FOODIES
This month, my friends and I will be going to Baguio. As I search for Baguio’s ube jam on the net, I stumbled upon this blog. I read the pasalubong ideas (good and bad) post, the ube jam post and then I continued to some other recent ones. It was a good read. And this deserved this blog the #1 post on my list.

2. EAT’S TERRIFIC!
I thought it’s Kuya Orman’s personal blog but then it’s not. It’s a food blog and it’s full of good things!

Singer of Souls by Adam Stemple

I quote someone named Anne McCaffrey with her saying that Singer of Souls is “One of the best first novels I have ever read”. I don’t know Anne but I took her word for that and bought the book. Singer of Souls author, Adam Stemple, is son to Jane Yolen, the author of the Pit Dragon Trilogy (I read one book and loved it too). He wrote a book much more alike to his personal life — a book of rock and roll… and magic.

Singer of Souls by Adam Stemple

Douglas, the main character, tries to escape his addiction to heroin and stumbles to Edinburgh to live with her grandma. He works as a busker (street performer) and uses his ability to create unique songs for every individual to get in more money. The turning point of his life came when a young pretty woman asked him for a song. Douglas obliged and gave her her song. A vial with white powder was given in return (though he never asked for it) and Douglas was terrified it might spark up his drug addiction again. No matter how he avoided, he shot up the contents of the vial. To his surprise, it wasn’t a drug and he wasn’t high. Well he thought he was high when all the powder did was make him see all things faery — bogies, trolls, elves. In the end he learned that the woman who gave her the vial was an elf queen. Everything placed him in jeopardy when he was pulled in an ancient war between faeiries and other much unlikable creatures.
