Sumilon Bluewater, Not Just Your Ordinary Getaway
There lies an island on the south of Cebu that holds such a simple yet stunning beauty that would surely mesmerize the eye that sees it. Sitting on tranquil and life-filled waters, the flora-abundant Sumilon island is one of Cebu’s well-kept treasures and has remained such through time. On the first day of August 2009, 35 bloggers from Cebu were invited to have the time of their lives at the scenic Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort.
What Makes Sumilon Island Extraordinary?

Sumilon Island
A wide stretch of white sand, a continuously shifting wind-strewn sandbar, a mangrove lagoon, a number of well-preserved dive spots, a diverse community of sea life, an abundance of trees, a crystal clear surrounding blue water and the natural calmness of nature, that’s what you get in the island of Sumilon.
Located 125 kilometers from Cebu City, Sumilon Island is worth the long trip down the winding and historical road of Cebu South. A stunning 24 hectares compose the island and it has been recognized as the very first fish sanctuary in the country. Such protection of Sumilon’s aquatic wildlife made it possible for divers to spot a variety of marine species including black tip sharks.
For the adventure loving kiddo, an array of activities are open for some action. On calm days, snorkeling trips with our underwater friends is advisable. On moderately windy days, windsurfing is the kick-ass thing to do. Others could go scuba diving, caving, trekking, island hopping, boating, canoeing, swimming, relaxing and slacking around or the many other possibilities one could do on the island.
What Makes Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort The Choice Of Many?

Sumilon Bluewater Resort's Rooms
Sumilon Island itself is Paraiso. But this so-called paraiso has been opened to excited tourists through the management of Sumilon Bluewater Beach Resort. Sumilon Bluewater Beach resort is owned and managed by Almont Holdings Incorporated (AHI) and is the sister resort of Maribago Bluewater Cebu Beach Resort in Mactan. Being well kept by Resident Manager Greg Perral, Sumilon Bluewater Beach Resort has been busy catering to both locals and foreigners alike.
Just like Maribago Bluewater, Sumilon Bluewater’s staff radiates the most hospitable aura that one could ever get in getaways like Sumilon. Being there would entitle you to a day of being pampered royalty-style. Friendly, accommodating and on-the-go, that’s what Sumilon Bluewater’s staff is.

Talking about the cuisine, there’s nothing more you could ask for to one’s cravings. Chef de Partie Buddy Amodia’s the man! He manages the resort’s in-house kitchen and makes sure that every food served would end up on a happy and satisfied stomach. Personally, the food was good. One companion was even praising the okra meal like there’s no tomorrow.
The island is lined with eight cottages, two rooms each and with private verandas. Overnight stays would be perfect especially with the wonderful view of the open sea and mainland Cebu. The serenity that the resort offers made it a favorite getaway for a perfect honeymoon.
Sumilon Bluewater Beach Resort never fails their guests. I could say that they have a world-class service and quality. The island’s purity was well kept by the management in parallel to providing the highest quality service they could offer to their guests.
The Extraordinary Kiddo Celebrates Life in Sumilon!

Bloggers together with the Management
NO REGRETS. That’s a phrase I said to myself after experiencing the grandeur of Sumilon. I confirmed my attendance the night prior to August 1 since I also have committed myself to an acquaintance party the same day. I was confused the days prior but all the bedazzlement ended in the best adventure I ever had.
My Cebu Bloggers Society family is the best company for any type of event and adventure. The infamous “attitude problem” term has been ringing around us whole day and that term’s what kept us going all throughout. The trip from Cebu City to Sumilon then back to Cebu City has been truly a memorable and enjoyable one.

Going back to mainland Cebu
Our bond was shown in how we were always together in every island activity we partook. We swam and together we fell on the rocks that lay on one side of the island. After getting funny scratches on our legs, we decided to take the paddling activity. We took turns and we enjoyed the muscle-driving rowing of the canoes on the mangrove-scattered lil swamp. After choosing which way to go, trekking or sand bar, we decided to immediately proceed to the waiting sand bar on the other side. What revealed to us is a beautiful stretch of fine sand lined with seemingly angry waves. Well, we’re up for the dare. We spent a long time bracing ourselves up for the big waves. We all stumbled, rolled and got slapped by those pesky waves. No exceptions – whether you may be a local TV host, a behaved little girl or a soon-to-be-mom – we all have to enjoy the fun of colliding with the big waves. Ooh yeah. Then here’s the catch. While doing “kapit bisig” or walking towards the waves hand in hand altogether, a sudden outburst of sandstorm came. THIS is the highlight of the day. We all ran for our lives, to make the story short.
The day was fun-filled. We all went home bringing with us memories, food and scars to remind us of the special day we spent in Sumilon. Here’s a video before our banca brought us back to the mainland.
Other videos I took: Cebu Bloggers Society Goes To Sumilon Part 1, Part 2 and Part 4. Here’s a Sumilon Bluewater Video from the management.
A Big Thanks To Sumilon Bluewater
My day at Sumilon Bluewater has been the best ever. The gloomy weather did nothing to change our energy-filled moods. It even gave us the waves and the sandstorm.
I enjoyed Sumilon – the service, the food, the bonding, the sea, the sandstorm, the trip, the new friends, everything!
A very big THANK YOU to Sir Ruben of PINOYWORLD, to Mr. Greg Perral and to Sumilon Bluewater Beach Resort. You have given such an extraordinary adventure to the extraordinary kiddo! Kudos!
The pictures I took in Sumilon are on this link and link. Thanks to Laag Cebu for the second to the last image on this post.
