Everyone’s been excited with the coming of Apple’s iOS5, including me. I wasn’t anticipating the release of a “new iPhone” (which turned out to be the still-amazing iPhone 4S). Instead, I was really hyped about the new features bundled in iOS5.
Apple released iOS to the public last October 12. In the Philippines, the exact release time was 1AM of October 13. I also woke up to update my phone, ahem, at 1AM. I won’t talk about the trouble I went through to update my iPhone (imagine being groggy while trying to update your phone) but the most important thing is that, here I am now, using iOS5 on my phone.
The features of iOS5 may not be new to this world. Android users will attest to that. But as I’ve always told people (and myself), iOS/Apple/iPhone will always deliver some kind of “magic” that the Android platform cannot.
So here are some of the features of iOS5 available for the iPhone 4S’s way older brother, the iPhone 3GS.
Notification Center
The new Notification Center is the most obvious new feature that iOS holds. Aside from its usual “notifying” job, I can also let sit my messages, emails and updates there for a while for future checking. It’s less annoying than the blue popup notification of the past. Really, really useful. Weather and stocks display comes in the default but as I am no businessman, I removed Stocks from there. You can also set which apps can notify you through the Notification Center, how and how many. Don’t worry, the old blue popup notification can still be summoned in iOS5.
