The Boyce Avenue Concert Experience

I know it is a bit too late to write this post already but I’d rather really create this one for remembrance’s sake. I forget things easily with all those school stuff.

So last Thursday, two friends and I, after our Bioinformatics class ended at 4pm, “rushed” to SM Cebu for the Boyce Avenue Concert. Don’t get us wrong. One of them rarely know Boyce Avenue and one doesn’t know them at all. We just have some complications with other people that’s why we’re rushing. Anyways, we reached SM Cebu’s North Atrium (Northwing) within 30 minutes and got to be in the front part of the standing group. There’s a seated group where you have to buy a CD just to get in. Well I don’t care about the CD. What do you think is Limewire’s use? And so the standing agony begins and lasted for almost two hours. That’s when Boyce Avenue came out to rock the crowd.

Surprisingly, people (most of which are students/teens) were so excited, hyped and fidgety with this event. Boyce Avenue’s first song, Apologize, brought the spirits up. The rest of the songs were very good and enjoyable. The crowd’s energy was contagious. The concert ended within an hour as I’ve expected except that when people started to clamber out, the band went out again and announced that there’ll be two more songs. This is because people were yelling ‘one more!’ when they ended. I didn’t get the chance to listen to the last two songs. We were rushing home as we’ve got a long essay exam the day after (which eventually was postponed).

So how do I feel after the concert? I felt deaf. That was my first concert of an international band. It was quite memorable. First times, you know. And I knew Boyce Avenue long time ago when Phoebe gave me a link to their YouTube video. I like their songs, revivals and originals altogether. That is why I did not hesitate to go this concert. Hell yeah.

Here is a picture taken before the concert. The picture is owned by Sinjin, a Plurkmate. I have a video on my cellphone but it is of the poorest of poor quality, so never mind. After the jump are two related sharings.

Anyways, there’s one more thing very interesting that happened to us (Darlene, Anne and I) while watching the concert. There’s the small but a bit chubby girl in black together with her companions bugging us from 4:30pm until the concert ended. She first tried to victimize me by touching my back, my belt, my shoulder, by leaning on my shoulder. And I heard that she’s trying to bug me so I would leave and they’d get my place. I did not budge. Insensitivity to strangers rocks! So they transferred their energies to Darlene. And Darlene is smaller than the girl so she scolded her many times. Apparently, the girl’s head is harder than a coconut’s. It’s like we’re playing tug-of-war without the ropes and instead of pulling is pushing. One strand of Darlene’s hair was also plucked. When we were about to leave, Darlene said to us, “Mga wa siguro’y grado (Maybe they are not educated)“. Maybe she heard, she hit Darlene on the back part. I was pushed when I was walking. I did not turn back. I could have shot that girl with my imaginary gun.

Another thing is that this blog received a traffic boost the days prior to the concert for the keywords “Boyce Avenue Cebu Concert SM”. And I am happy.

I hope another free concert of an international band will be sponsored by SM again. I’d love to go and experience a new adventure again.

Boyce Avenue Live At SM Cebu

Yep, you heard that right! Boyce Avenue, one of my favorite bands, will be here in Cebu to perform for FREE! It will be on February 12, 2009 at 6 PM at the Atrium of the Northwing of SM Cebu. This will be on a Thursday.

Here is the official press release of the Boyce Avenue Tour in Manila and Cebu:

Popular Florida-based band Boyce Avenue is set to hit Manila & Cebu – for the first time in the Philippines, with their strong acoustic roots and harmony-driven rock sound. Fall in love with their shooting vocals and melodious sound through concert performances in SM Cebu, SM MOA, SM North Edsa and SM Megamall.

With over 3 million hits and counting on their videos and music, this Youtube sensation has become one of America’s hottest bands today. Just last year, brother Alejandro, Fabian and Daniel Manzano together with drummer Stephen Hatker released their very successful debut album entitled All You’re Meant to Be. Since then, the boys from Boyce Avenue have been around the world touring and performing non-stop. With their simple yet hook-filled tunes like Hear Me Now, Dare to Believe, Find Me, and many more, Boyce Avenue has captured the hearts of music lovers everywhere as they sing their way to global stardom.

Celebrate love and music with Boyce Avenue on their very first performance in Manila! Watch them perform live on FEB 12, 6PM at the Atrium of the Northwing of SM Cebu, on FEB 13, 7PM at the Entertainment Mall, Seaside Boulevard, SM MOA, on FEB 14, 5PM at the Atrium at The Block, SM City North Edsa and FEB 15, 7:30PM at the Mega Atrium, SM Megamall. The concert performances are free so be sure not to miss this exciting night of acoustic and rock brought to you by the SM Supermalls! Many thanks to our media sponsors Wave 89.1, Magic 89.9, XFM 92.3 and MTV Philippines.

I like their songs even though some are renditions of other modern songs simply because I like how they naturally play acoustic. I’ll try my very best to watch their performance since my class ends around 4 PM or 5:30 PM. One of my friends (the one who informed me of the existence of this band) would surely be happy to know this event.

See you there!
