Pit Senyor everyone! Phew! Another unusual mass experience for me.
We woke up at 2:30 AM so we could get inside Sto. Nino for the 4 AM mass. My eyes were so watery and they’re falling. Good thing we arrived 30 minutes before 4 AM and we were able to get in and stay near the Basilica doors. There were so many people in the area! Look at the picture. The crowd’s thickness is more than that! (though that picture is not the exact picture for the 4AM mass). People were also mumbling and arguing and some don’t actually care. Some are fighting the guard because he blocked the Basilica’s gate. But I wonder how thick the crowd is for the Pontifical Mass of Cardinal Vidal?
I loved the releasing of the balloons in the beginning of the mass. I remember we released the balloons two years ago after the mass. Now it is before the mass. But we don’t have any balloons. Only my grandma and my aunties bought balloons. The rest of the mass went on like any usual mass except we sang (my favorite part) Bato Balani in the middle of the mass. I like that song and I like the hand waving. We weren’t able to do the communion part because people are already PUSHING like there’s no tomorrow. So even before the mass ended, we started to get out. And that’s when more PUSHING happened. Just push and push and push. Your little guy here (I’m not little) just went with the tighty flow until we reached an open area, thank God.
What I noticed about this experience: Cebuanos are very devoted Catholics. I think we are the most devoted Catholics in the whole country.
For the rest of the day, I’ll be at home doing a programming project or memorizing a Florante at Laura chapter. Damn, teachers are so KILL JOY. I’ll just have to watch the dance and festivities in the T.V. Sad.
Anyways, I hope we’ll be watching the fireworks at Ayala later.
Update: We’ve been to the fireworks display and videos will be posted soon.
Pit Senyor to all!
