International Year of Planet Earth & Earth Science Week Photo Contest

To celebrate the International Year of Planet Earth and Earth Science Week, the American Geological Institute is sponsoring a major international photography contest: “Exploring Earth Science Around the World.”

No matter where in the world you live, Earth science is all around you. Just step outdoors, and you find it in rivers and lakes, in the sky above you, and in the ground under your feet. Earth science includes geology, oceanography, meteorology, hydrology, paleontology, and other geosciences. Continue reading

A Try On Amateur Nature Photography

It was one sunny afternoon and I was bored. I saw that our front yard holds some great stuff. Well, I meant plants actually. So I grabbed the digital camera and clicked!

I love photography. The only thing that makes this dream incomplete is a great camera that could capture the finest details. I also love nature, flora and fauna. So photography plus nature equals nature photos. That was really logical! (doh!)

Since I am an amateur photographer (wannabe) and I’m taking up nature pics, then I call this project amateur nature photography. Okay, so before I start getting away from the topic, here are thumbnails of the pictures that I took. Click them so you’d be taken to it’s almost-full-size view. When you’re there, click zoom to see the original look of the photo.

Hey, I told you I’m an amateur when it comes to this one. So don’t laugh. Here is an enlarged version of one of those. This is not the original size.

You’re probably wondering why I’ve taken pictures of flowers, leaves and all those green nature stuff. I couldn’t take pictures of spiders. I know my friend Justine would kill me for that. And there are no other stuff in our front yard, all plants. Unless you want to see what my slippers look like.

Note: I don’t like flowers. I like insects.
