The Successful ASUS Overclocking Show

ASUS, in cooperation with First Tier Branding Solutions Inc., invited us Cebu Bloggers Society (coming as press) to witness the very first overclocking show in the whole country entitled Asus Ultimate Overclocking Show 2009. The said show was held in SM Entertainment Plaza in SM City Cebu, 3:00PM to 6:00PM.

I believe everyone who knows what a computer is knows of the existence of a brand named Asus. Quick overview: Asus is a leading company in the new digital era. They have more than ten thousand staff worlwide and a world-class R&D design team. Asus ranks among the top 10 IT companies in BusinessWeek’s “InfoTech 100″ for 11 years already. The Asus Overclocking Show is a contest between two geeky groups, four members each and has previous overclocking experiences. The show has two parts since the two teams will have a try to overclock an AMD platform and Intel platform. With 50,000 worth of token cash and hardware, what’s there to lose? Six criterias are given for the scoring: Highest % Overclock, Highest CPU MHz, Highest Bclock, Highest memory speed (any timing), Highest 3DMark Vantage score in the overclocked system and Highest Super PI. I actually don’t know a lot of those even if I am a computer science student .

The two sets of computers in the OC (overclocking) show also uses the best hardwares available on market. Click on links to see image. The latest Intel Core i7 board – Rampage II Gene and the AMD-based motherboard, M4A79-T deluxe. The graphic cards used are the EAH4890 and the ENGTX285. Other hardware used: OCZ memory, Western Digital’s Caviar Black hard disks, Sunbeam coolers, Silverstone power supply and Logitech cordless mouse and keyboard. Microsoft provided the Windows Vista OS used in the systems. Take note of the hardware brands used because that only means they are truly top-notch brands.

The show started with an introduction about overclocking — means of tweaking your computer hardware to function above its original specs. Then the introduction of the overclockers followed. While the overclockers are overclocking, the audience are given away freebies by answering some simple and average questions about overclocking and about Asus. A sample giveaway is the U1 amplifier. With 8 lifelines each per team (useful for BSODs) and with a round on both systems, the show ended with a clap on our bet which is Cebu Extreme Overclockers (the other team is Sugbu Elite Overclockers). All the hardware used also goes with them. Short clips of the event are here below.

The Asus Ultimate Overclocking Show is successful because it gave light on issues about the possibilities, the problems faced and the benefits of overclocking. With a very active and geeky audience participation, the show is really a good kick-off for more overclocking shows nationwide.
