I know what The Last Airbender is. I know it, by name. Though a Nickelodeon-fan kid before, I was not able to watch religiously this TV-series-turned-movie no matter how I want to. Time constraint just can’t get off of my sleeve. But people always tell me that it is a good one, an interesting one. And the movie is here to prove it to me.
In Youtube, people gave really really awful reviews for The Last Airbender. I’ve been excited about this since mid-2009 and was even partially disappointed that Avatar (which came out earlier) is not this. Now it’s here and I read bad reviews.
The trailer didn’t get me excited compared to Harry Potter 6′s trailer. Nevertheless, I may be watching this one in 3D (if available in SM) with my office mates, I suppose. Aside from watching how Mr-Slumdog-Millionaire works as a fantasy antagonist, I’m interested with the story and how it made watchers cuss. As for me, I am more of the appreciative type when it comes to movies — I even liked Dragon Ball Evolution when people hated it.
I just hope SM replaces Toy Story 3 3D fast and switch to The Last Airbender. By then, I’d be confused as to watch Avatar 3D in IMAX or this. Need to save up.

sad

You also like Ben 10 haha I remember. Anyways, will you be watching this sa sine?
knowing that it was directed by no other than M. Night Shyamalan gave me doubts about the movie. i didn’t set my hopes high and just thought i’d wait to see the movie myself. i just hope that despite the seriousness of the trailer, they’d still injected some humor in the movie. after all, that was what i liked about the cartoons version of it. goodluck nalang jud if bati ang movie! *sigh*

I didn’t know that Shyamalan was a sucker for directing movies. Anyways, I still look forward to seeing the movies. I want to see the brighter side of the movie that the critics haven’t seen or ignored.

His movies include The Happening, Lady in the Water (which i didn’t understand at all), The village, Signs, Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense among others. He’s actually known to direct weird and out of this world movies. ehehehe. More of a horror/suspense movie director to me eh. but am still willing to give this movie a shot too. ;o)

I don’t know any of those movies though hehe.
The Last Airbender nalang on July 21.
there’s already a pirated version of this movie, though the copy isn’t clear you could very much tell how novice m night shyamalan really is when it comes to directing. i liked his earlier movies but i think he could nly deliver if he could imagine how he would twist the story. and since this is based on a cartoon series there is not much to twist and it’s just too big for him to turn into a movie. acting is really bad. plot is awkward. action scenes not good as well. i don’t think i’ll waste money on 3d for this.

I just watched it on 3D haha! Not much exciting 3D effects though. It got me asking, ‘where’s the 3D here?’. Fairly good movie.
There are many reasons why Last Airbender sucks. Or at least that’s according to the fans of the series.
…That said, I’ve seen bits of the series before and I really do think that he ruined the credibility of the movie when he casted Caucasians in all of the lead protagonist parts. And he can’t say he got the best of the best since he’s pretty much casting relative unknowns (I’m talking about Noah RInger here).

We’ll leave it up to the sequel to see how the actors improve themselves after all the bashing.
When I first saw its trailer and teaser images last year I had high hopes that it will be a decent enough movie adaptation. To my surprise almost everyone gated it, well movie reviewers that is. Even a fan of Shyamalan who is also a movie reviewer hated his adaptation. I really lost interest on this movie, maybe it is one of those movie that I will just watch in one sitting once all of its franchise has been release. Just like the utterly lame Twilight Saga, yes! I haven’t seen any of the Twilight movies because of a good gut feel.

The movie was OK. Not amazing, just good. Anyways, you’re somebody I could relate to. I haven’t seen any Twilight movie yet haha.
its really bad ….. i have watched this na ….. the only thing that stands out are the special effects and some fight scenes …..
Overall …. am very disappointed. Badly compressed. badly scripted. And the characters are mostly from Bollywood or something ….. why is it that???? So Mr. Shyamalan can still go to his native home a hero while the rest of the world’s fan burned him of making such a lousy job?
Please …. no more Mr Shyamalan on the next sequel ….. and redo all the character casting. Its not their fault. Its the director …..
Am better off watching the cartoon series all over again

Lol you seem really disappointed. As for me, I did not follow the cartoon series so the movie was fine. The acting and effects are lacking though — not really the movie you could call amazing. But for me, it wasn’t very bad either. Just fairly good.
the movie was good. Good thing I didn’t read all these “bad”reviews of the movie, else I would have not watched it.
I am a visual person so maybe I was impressed because of the visual effects. But one thing I commend in this movie is the consistency of the structures. There are movies that you see a good view far away but when the actors are in the vicinity, you can’t appreciate the background because it’s some kind of studio made.
the plot is simple and would tell us that there is a sequel…so I don’t see any reason many people hate this.

Being a big fan of adventure and fantasy movies, it’s not visually appealing to me.
Some angles doesn’t feel right.
And the actors didn’t manifest the characters right.
We hated it because we expected something more than that. We knew how adorable and funny the characters in the series are.
When it comes to visual effects and great storyline, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is better.
Well, you should watch the cartoon version instead.

I watched it 3 times to actually understand what M. Night Shyamalan was trying to do. It was great. He was trying to show the Aang whose Water Chakra, , was blocked. The water chakra is blocked by guilt. In the movie, he looked gloomier than usual because he still wasn’t able to accept the death of the Air Nomads. He blamed himself because he ran away, and escaped from his role as the Avatar. He was blaming himself, and he was guilty, thus, his chakra was blocked. The dragon kept on telling him that it wasn’t his fault that the Nomads died. And, Master Pakku told them something like “The Water represents acceptance”. So, in the end of the movie, when the Northern Water Tribe people were bowing to him, he bowed back, a symbol that he finally accepted his role as the Avatar. Sooo, that’s why he has been a bit gloomy and unhappy in the movie. There were parts shown, especially in the first and flashback part, that he was still cheerful and playful. It was just played subtly, though.
Though the casting wasn’t really perfect, it’s understandable, because some of them, like Noah Ringer and Dev Patel, are good in Taekwando, so it’ll be easier to handle. And, Noah Ringer knows how to use a staff.
