What Is Your Web Hosting Provider?

Web hosting – a good topic of discussion. Since probably most of my readers and droppers-by here are also bloggers, talks about web hosting wouldn’t be much of a hard thing to do. 5mc6a8pry7

I am currently on a very affordable web host right now. But luckily, I haven’t encountered any problems lately from them and their servers (please let not this sentence be jinxed). I have no qualms as of the moment except that their support, both e-mail and live, is shut off. They’re holding my domain (stupid me) and that is a big problem. The only way to contact them is through the phone. And they’re in the USA and I’m in the Philippines. Thank God for YM (but I made no attempts whatsoever calling them yet).

Anyways, for those of you who are also on paid hosting for their WordPress, Drupal or Joomla blogs, can I ask you these questions?

  • What is your web hosting provider? Is it a local one or not?
  • Do you trust your web hosting provider?
  • Have you had any problems with your web host?
  • Is support fast and customer-friendly?
  • Are you satisfied over-all including service and price?
  • Are you willing to pay higher for a better and more reliable web host, given you have the ability to pay that amount?

I’m asking those questions out of curiosity. There are many choices from the online market and a newbie might find it useful when encountering a bunch of comments regarding web hosting providers. Aside from web hosting rankings (visit site), personal comments also give heavy weight to a web hosting provider’s prestige.

If you have ample time, please do share some thoughts about web hosting and your web host. Thank you.

  1. There online chat and email are shut off! That doesn’t sound like the greatest web hosting company. You might want to switch just to ease you mind a little, because trust me customer service is everything ;-) Especially when you have clients breathing down you neck, and your site is down!

I use a handful of them for my clients. Hostgator, FatCow, and BlueHost are great hosting providers. Just to name a few ;-) They all have great customer service. You can contact all them via-phone. Also, live chat if you would like. FatCow has news reports on their site, which keep you in the loop. They have toll free numbers so long distance isn’t a problem :)

To answer you question I am satisfied with these Web Hosting providers. I actually started a site a little while ago that has some consumer reviews on web hosting services, maybe you will find it helpful:

I have many more reviews coming in ;-)

    Hey thanks a lot Garen!

Hmmm FatCow is $66/year. That’s $5.5 a month. That’s fine but maybe I’d transfer as soon as I get a job to sustain such amount. But nevertheless, I’ll remember the word FatCow.

Your site is great… you’ve reviewed the ones you’ve mentioned in your comment. Thanks for the share!

  2. my domain and hostings are provided by a filipino company. i had so many problems in the past. 3 weeks downtime, lack of 24-hr support, etc… i’m stuck to it pa at this time. many of their clients left and posted rants.

but they’ve upgraded their servers and uptime is fine now. but still, no 24/7 support, and if i have problems on a weekend, i have to wait for monday to come.

Good thing they’ve returned. And a weekday only support is better than no support at all.

But the 3 weeks downtime is too scary

This brings in the question: are Filipino-run web hosting providers give good quality of service? :?:

they advertise themselves as no.1 in phil but unfortunately, they were not able to handle customer complaints properly. i know of three bloggers who left them. i was just too patient (or rather scared of losing my posts) but good thing they’ve upgraded.

That’s good news. Sometimes we just have to be patient, sometimes not.

    Good luck ceblogger!

  3. My blog is hosted in Hostmonster. In almost one year of blogging, I only experienced one time of downtime that lasted around 26 hours due to a system upgrade. Other than that, there’s none.
